Ligue 1: Mbappe double gives PSG 2-0 win over Monaco

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi won’t be renewing their old contest in the Titleholders League after all, as Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain were separated after Monday’s original draw for the last 16 in Nyon had to be redone.

Messi’s PSG were rather drawn to face Real Madrid in another blockbuster tie. The French titans had finished second in their group, so a tough spin was anyway on the cards.
Defending titleholders Chelsea, who slipped up on the final day of group play, got French club Lille in both performances of the draw.

United will now face Atletico Madrid, while Liverpool were drawn to face Italian titans Inter Milan.
Mbappe plant the reverse of the net with a penalty and a precise strike in the opening half to put the league leaders on 45 points from 18 games, 13 ahead of alternate- placed Olympique de Marseille who have a game in hand.
Monaco, who had scored three pretensions in each of their triumphs in the former two games, are eighth on 26 points.

They’re one of six brigades within six points fighting for alternate place, with Stade Rennais in third on 31 points after their 2-1 defeat at home against fourth- placed Nice.
“ Perhaps it wasn’t brilliant but we killed it in the first half,” said Mbappe, who scored his ninth and 10th pretensions in 10 appearances against his former club.

“ I ca n’t get novelettish. I love playing football and I love scoring pretensions.”

Messi denied

Guillermo Maripan also squandered a great chance to draw Monaco position before PSG scored their alternate thing.
Youssouf Fofana gave possession down to Messi in midfield and he surged forward before teeing up Mbappe, who took a touch and coiled a shot into the far corner for his ninth Ligue 1 thing this season.

Messi came agonisingly near after the break with a shot across the goalkeeper that grazed the far post.
The seven- time Ballond’Or winner has five pretensions in five Titleholders League appearances for PSG but just one in 10 games in Ligue 1. This game verified that Mbappe is the main man for PSG, rather than the Argentinian.

Marseille moved back over to alternate as their palm at Strasbourg took them above Rennes, who lost at home to Nice.
Youthful Senegalese striker Bamba Dieng put Marseille ahead in Alsace with an acrobatic volleyed finish just after the hour. Duje Caleta-Car headed in a Dimitri Payet corner late on to seal the points.

Kasper Dolberg scored one thing and set up another as Nice won 2-1 at Rennes in a clash between two clubs with Titleholders League intentions.
Nice started the crusade explosively before stumbling in recent weeks but they went ahead in Brittany when Dolberg converted a 19th- nanosecond penalty awarded for a foul on Dante.

Denmark striker Dolberg also teed up Youcef Atal to score the alternate in the 51st nanosecond.
Benjamin Bourigeaud pulled one reverse for Rennes but Nice held on to close to within a point of Rennes in the table.

Reigning titleholders Lille, fresh from qualifying for the last 16 of the Titleholders League, were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Lyon, a result which leaves both clubs inmid-table.
Lyon last week had a point subtracted as a discipline for the trouble that led to November’s game against Marseille being abandoned after Payet was hit on the head by a bottle.
